How these notes work
This page sets out the method behind the eighteen notes: how the hotels were chosen, what was used to write them, what has been left out on purpose, and what to do when something here is wrong. Nothing on this site is sponsored, and no hotel has seen a note before it was published.
How the hotels were chosen
The four sections came first, and hotels were then chosen to fill them. Each one had to be a real house, open to guests, and described in enough published detail to write about without inventing anything. No hotel paid to appear, and none was left out for the opposite reason.
Which sources are used
Notes rest on hotel and operator websites, on mapped locations, and on published reporting about the buildings. Where a detail could not be confirmed in one of those, the sentence was rewritten so that it stayed true without it. Each note carries the month it was last checked.
What is not here
No prices, no stars, no scores, no order of merit, no room counts, no reviews, no booking links and no comparisons between hotels. This reference does not sell anything and holds nothing on your behalf. Availability, opening hours and access change without notice, and only the hotel can confirm them.
How to read the winter section
The hotels in the ice section are seasonal structures. They are built from snow and ice, stand through the winter season, and are then taken down or left to melt. Every year they are built again on a new plan, so the layout described one winter may not exist the next. Exact opening and closing dates are not promised here; ask the operator.
